9.17.2020 Black River (Irving to Melrose (2.5 ft\/mile )<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today marks the COVID 18 trip.\u00a0 Two more trips to go and we have beaten the COVID-19 thing.\u00a0 \u00a0Today we enjoyed entertaining more of Teresa\u2019s family:\u00a0 Dan and Judy.\u00a0 They felt that if we could invite Mark and Michelle last Sunday, they deserved to come along today\u2014after all Dan owns the kayaks.\u00a0 Dan was also a bit irritated at me for saying Mark was better looking, and he pointed out to me that I was very wrong.\u00a0 You decide.\u00a0 We did have a great day, albeit a bit cool when we started at 50\u00b0, but it did warm up to 62\u00b0 by the time we ended for the day.\u00a0 The water temperature is becoming a bit less forgiving, measuring in at 55\u00b0, a sharp drop since Sunday.\u00a0 Our water depth was basically the same measuring 4.8 feet.\u00a0 Our 13.05 mile trip today took much longer, reaching an average speed of 3.2 mph, definitely the \u00a0slowest for the year.\u00a0 It took us 4 hours and 7 minutes plus an additional 1 hour and 36 minutes\u2019 worth of stops.\u00a0 We did however, continue to go in the same direction all day and enjoyed the peace and quiet of not having to contain Mark, as we did on Sunday (just kidding).<\/p>\n

It turned into a very scenic trip today and well worth the extra time it took on the water.\u00a0 We were able to paddle all the way back, right up to \u201cLost Falls\u201d, which is a \u201cfirst\u201d to be able to paddle to the base.\u00a0 It is a very scenic pool of water at the bottom of the falls and an enjoyable stop.\u00a0 We also saw over 50 plus sightings of Eagles.\u00a0 We had as many as 7 in one tree, and they were constantly flying over and around us\u2014but the pictures are few, because they are out and going before I can get my camera, but I did capture quite a few and some in flight.\u00a0 The lighting conditions were not the best for photography today.\u00a0 When the sun did come out it really washed out the colors and some of the pictures show it\u2014sorry.\u00a0 Our group consisted of Dan and Judy, guests, and most of the usual crew of Bill, Teresa, Steve, and Me.\u00a0 Our wildlife for the day included; live Deer (no picture), a dead deer, and 50 plus Eagles.\u00a0 We did also take a detour on the river to view Steve\u2019s old cabin, on property he used to own, and see a great piece of hunting property.\u00a0 I know how much Steve does miss it\u2014you could see it in his enthusiasm.<\/p>\n

As usual another great day, but you can tell that fall is in the air.<\/p>\n
