6.12.2021 Heinz Family Kayak Trip: Melrose to North Bend (Hwy VV)
Trip Number (21-10) Today is our annual Heinz family kayak trip, which we have been doing for more than 15 years. We always enjoy the trip even though the family members have evolved, we used to have the parents, but we are now joined by the kids, but the fun is still the same. We had 9 of us tour the Black River from Melrose to North Bend on an 88° day with 75°water. The river stage was at 3.8 feet, which was adequate, so no one had to do any walking, but at times some good maneuvering. We completed the trip in 2 hours and 59 minutes of paddling time and added another 1½ hours of play time into the mix, which made the day very enjoyable. We still averaged 3.6mph. which is a good comfortable pace. The troopers that made the trip today were; Amy, Ben, Me, Jim, Janice, Kurt, Jessie, Matt, and Eileen, so a well-rounded and diverse group of family members. We discussed all the world issues, and problems and did have a few resolutions to submit—if we can find someone to listen to our common sense approach. It was fun…
Our wildlife for the day included; Eagles, Turtle and a Snake that joined us for lunch. The cinematography did leave a little to be desired on the videos, but I had an off day—sorry in advance.
