6.10.2021  Black River:  Melrose to North Bend (Hwy VV)

Trip Number (21-9) We originally had a tour group that was going to go with us today, but they cancelled at the last minute for various reasons, so as long as we had planned on going, why not.  The 3 Amigos (Pat C., Steve, and Me) made the trip down the mighty Black River (Which is not so mighty today with only a 4.15 ft. stage) and had a great QUIET day, must be some of those other people that go with us that make all the noise???  We did have a perfect water temperature at 75°, however, a stifling 96° air temperature, so we had to take advantage and do a little swimming for the first time in many trips.  We felt we were taking a very leisure trip with an hours’ worth of stops, and swimming, but we still finished the 10.8 mile trip in less than 3 hours (2 hours/54 minutes), for an average speed of 3.8 mph.

The wildlife for the day included Eagles, Turtles, and a couple of Ducks.  The Eagles were especially jumpy today, you would not even see them and “BAM” they would just fly over your head, so I missed some really good shots today, but what do you expect from an amateur?  Overall, we had another great day on the river—it never gets old.
