6.5.2021 Black River: Hunter’s Bridge to Lytle Bay (2.5’/mile)
Trip Number (21-8) The challenge for today was not the river, but the heat–99°. We did have a good paddle in spite of the heat because the water level was an adequate 4.9 feet, the temperature was a comfortable 70° and we had the perfect breeze to make it all tolerable. We enjoyed the company of a few guests with Mark and Michelle returning, along with our regulars: Bill and Teresa, Tom, Steve, Pat. C, along with the appearance of Kathy—whom we have not seen in a while, and then Me. So the 9 of us traveled the 11.6 mile trip at an average speed of 3.4 mph and completed the tour in 3 hours and 22 minutes not counting the 1 hour and 15 minutes we stopped just to enjoy a perfect afternoon. Near the end of the first leg of the trip we were joined by Paul and Jennifer, who were sporting their new kayaks that are making their free time enjoyable. Hopefully we will see them more times on the river, as they really learn to enjoy their new toys. Obviously, we gave them all kinds of advice on kayaking, so they received 20 years’ worth of “opinions” and education in about an hour—I am sure they really enjoyed that. I guess I don’t really remember them asking for any advice, BUT, we all shared anyway.
On our trip we did get to see; Many Eagles, Turtles, and a Snake that joined us for lunch.
