Trip Number (21-16) We are FINALLY back to kayaking again. We have had a 3 week hiatus due to weather, golf outings and festivals. August is a month that just does not exist in my world for any fun, all of my time is committed to one thing or another. Steve+D, a new traveler, Deb, and Me did pick a beautiful day for our return trip, with 86°, calm winds, sunny, and flat mirror-like water. We did complete our trip today in 3 ½ hours (3.6 mph average) plus we took another 1 hour for stops, just to enjoy the beauty of the day. Deb, who made her maiden voyage with us did surprise us, because she was competent and pleasant to be around, unlike some of our other first day travelers, who are lucky to even make it to the first bridge—200 feet from the launch site. With the good start that we had, the day was very pleasant.

Wildlife was a little light, we did see several Eagles, and one of those was a rare specimen. A very white Eagle that did not fly away, as Steve approached the bird. After research by Steve and myself, we agreed that it was likely a 2 1/2 year old Eagle that was probably a sick bird—it just did not seem to have any energy and allowing us to get that close is unusual for a healthy bird. The other Eagles that we did see, were flying quite high, as they tend to do this time of the year. The day was perfect—as they always are. Where else would you rather be than drifting aimlessly down the river on a bright summer day.
