8.13.2020 Black River (Melrose to VV no shortcut this time)
Today marks the COVID 14 trip. We enjoyed entertaining the RiverFest First Mates this day for our annual First Mates Tour. Our visitors for the day included: Joyce, Andrea, and Megan along with our reliable and dedicated group of Kayak guides. The five are; Teresa, Bill, Tom, Steve, and Me. We had a beautiful day with the high temperature for the day reaching 89° at days end, and with a comfortable water temperature of 70°–no change from Sunday. The water level was slightly down (3.65 feet) from our last visit to the Black, but we did manage to maneuver the low spots quite well and our guests handled the rigorous maneuvering with exceptional capabilities. The trip for the day was 10.9 miles long and we traveled at a lightning pace of 3.1 mph and finishing in 3 hours and 28 minutes, with an hour stop for lunch. It was a perfect day for humidity and temperatures, with the river cooperating quite well with a slight breeze from time to time.
Our wildlife report includes more turtles, some Eagles, and a Sea Gull. Everyone remarked that they had a nice day and enjoyed the trip, so for the host group of five, I can speak for them, when I say we enjoyed having you join us for the day.
