We had a small crew today, only 1 person besides myself. Art Fahey and I ventured down the mighty Black Rivers with unbelievable conditions to master. The sun was shining bright and the temperature was 77 degrees for the day, water temperature was right at 63 degrees and the River Stage at 6.7 and falling. The current was running at a good pace of about 3.1 miles per hour and we completed the 12 mile journey in 2 hours and 40 minutes, not a record, but a great pace. In spite of these conditions we managed to have a great day with extremely calm waters and absolutely no wind. We were bothered through the day with 1 Eagle and a gaggle of Geese, but we paddled on.
We missed all of you that had other plans, but will keep you on the list for future dates.
THE “SWALLOWS OF CAPISTRANO”? WELL THEY ARE THE SWALLOWS OF THE BLACK RIVER. LOOK AT THE BANKS AND SEE THEIR HOMES IN THE WALL.
YES, THIS HOUSE IS GOING TO FALL INTO THE RIVER. THEY ARE ONLY A FEW FEET FROM THE BANK, AND THE BANK HAS RECEDED SEVERAL FEET ALREADY THIS YEAR. THAT HOLE IN THE SAND BANK REACHES UNDER THE HOUSE. MUCH WORSE FROM OUR FIRST TRIP DOWN THE RIVER IN 2017
