We made a detour this week to the Root River. The Black River is too low, but the Root is always just right. We had a gorgeous day with 80°temperature, but the water in the Root River is much cooler–due to the springs that keep it cool. The water temp was right at 68°, brisk but nice. We traveled 10.75 miles in 2 hours and 48 minutes with an average speed of 3.8 mph. Light speed! The River Stage was 4.5 near Houston and 9.4 at Rushford–perfect height. The rapids were just righ, not too low, but still exciting enough to keep your interest. All four of us enjoyed the trip. Our travelers for the day were: Bill and Teresa Peters, Art Fahey and me–a great crew.
Wildlife for the day was dozens of Canadian Geese, 1 Eagle close up sitting just above the big Eagles nest, that you can see just below the Eagle in the picture. A few deer, and lots of Butterflies for Teresa.
