A new trip today, still the Root River, but on for an additional 5.7 miles of unexplored River. We felt like Lewis and Clark finding our way down the river and knowing at the end we had to go over a dam–not sure of the ending at that point. The dam can be as much as a 5 foot drop to something less. Today it was simply a nice rapid ride over the dam with only some white water to give us some excitement. The anticipation made it a great day. We did start out today at 59° but ended with a pleasant 70° sunny day, but a water temperature of only 60°. We have had some heavy rains and much flooding in our area so we were lucky to be able to make the trip. The water stage was 6.03 ft. near Houston and 10.7 ft. above Rushford. Trying to use the Rushford measure, because that is where we are, it appears we could definitely go up to 7 ft. and 12 ft. and still be safe for paddling. A good fact to know.
Our paddlers for the day were; Bill, Teresa, Steve, and myself as we cruised along very fast today, we finished the full 15.7 miles of paddling in 3 hours and 30 minutes of paddle time and took a 45 min. break, we averaged 4.5 miles per hour and finished in a record time. We only had one river rule infraction this trip–a phone call was taken by Teresa–a forbidden function on the mighty river. We saw Eagles, Geese, and a few Ducks. A good trip, looking forward to one or two more this year, if the weather holds.

The Eagle just flew away, I only caught his feathers–too slow on the camera
