6/15/2019 Heinz Family Kayak Trip (Hunters Bridge to Lytle Bay)

Our Annual Family Trip, June 15, 2019. The weekend we all look forward to, I hope. I sure do. We started out with a shaky weather forecast, and it was an optional trip. All of the crew accepted the challenge and we were all very well rewarded. The day was a hit and miss or overcast, sunny, and back again, but the temperature was a very comfortable 73°. The water temperature sounds like it was a little cool, but 68° is really not that bad – after the initial shock, it is quite comfortable. The Heinz Family included, Amy and Matt, Bob, Jim and Janice, Matt Draeger, Eileen and myself, eight in total. We traveled the 11.8 miles in 2 hours and 57 minutes of moving time at an average of 3.8 mph, and still had time to make stops for over an hour and finish in under 4 hours. In fact we were back at my house by 3pm, I think that is the earliest ever. The water was glass smooth. The wildlife for the day was interesting—we saw 7 or 8 Eagles (a few of them more than once for some nice viewing), a Goose, turtles, and 2 Kits (real young baby fox—I had never seen one before, unfortunately when I reached for my camera they were gone that quick), but I did have a witness in Eileen, so I am not telling stories.

Overall it turned out to be a perfect day, the rain did not start until after 6pm and we were very dry by that time and had finished the pizzas and had plenty of time for family stories. This was a great day, thank you to all who could participate.
