6/6/2020  Root River Whalen to Peterson

A beautiful day (COVID-6) awaited us as we traveled all the way to the Root River and started our venture at Whalen, MN.  The trip is 10.5 miles long—we took the short trip today-meandering down the river through numerous rapids and turns, and ending in Peterson, MN.  The trip took us 2.5 hours, so we averaged exactly 4.0 mph.  That was a great average, in view of the fact, we really just let the water take us, we did not paddle very hard today, we just enjoyed the perfect weather.  The air temperature was a comfortable 79°, very light winds for a change, and the water was a safe 5.5 feet deep (10.25 at the Rushford gauge) and a non-threatening 68°.  Our travelers for the day were; Bill, Teresa, Tom, Steve, Pat, me, and we welcomed a guest for the day in Art Fahey.  Art has not traveled with us in a long time, in spite of owning his own kayak.  Hopefully he enjoyed himself and we did not offend him too badly, he paddled like a professional.

The day produced a few Eagles, some ducks, and a few gaggles of geese.  This is the way to spend a beautiful early summer day.

Our music for this week was selected by Steve, he felt the river theme would be a good mix.
